Superhumanoids: “Expedition” (HoboFM) AUDIO

expedition-border-thumb

the latest mix for the good people at hobo fm is designed to be a journey. today is columbus day, a relatively superfluous holiday but one i used as an aesthetic crux. without being over explicit, there are lulls, dark moments, and day breaks placed through out – a siren, icy waters, and the hazy unexplored all make an appearance.

a nod to my good friend greg for the orchestral manoeuvres in the dark tip – full track-list after the jump:

Superhumanoids: “Summer Malaise” (HoboFM) AUDIO

this is my first real mix for the team at hobofm – they are trying to do some cool work in promoting good music in LA and beyond and i’m stoked to be collaborating with them. it took me a while to get into the idea as i wasn’t too fond of just making an itunes mix – i had some free time this weekend so i started working on one in ableton and it got much more enjoyable.

the mix is called summer malaise as that is what i feel i’m finally escaping. a mixture of tracks that i’ve been digging on recently as well as listening too over the summer (track-list after the jump). it is a bit all over the place but i suppose that reflects my own leanings. big ups to kyle mooney and eric steuer for some musical recs that are sprinkled through out:

Mort Garson: "Concerto For Philodendron & Pothos (James Pants/More Jive Rhythm Trax)" AUDIO

jp01cd

it is freeeeeeeezing outside as of late and im about to head back to seattle for a week where it is snowing and between 20-30 degrees fahrenheit. i expect my fingers to fall off. who knows im hoping for the best.

james pants, prior to his proper release welcome, put out a couple dope mixtapes. this track is from ice castles, a collection of tracks that are ice cold and super bizarre. seems like fitting music to play while shivering – the synths and drums on this track are dope.

Valentine's Day

(image via motel de moka, cropped still from Fa yeung nin wa / In the Mood for Love)

I’ve always felt relatively neutral about Valentine’s Day. It just has never been my thing – I find it weird culturally speaking (although I do like all the candy involved). Nonetheless, I am super down with Valentine’s Day mixes. Peep these – they are all great:

31 Flavor’s of Love: The Ultimate Valentine’s Day Hip-Hop Mix – Chock full of smooth and lovely hip hop. Read the description – it puts it all in context.

Peanut Butter Wolf Valentine’s Day Mixtape – This came out last year and I had completely forgotten about it so kudos to BV for remembering. This is my number one VDay mix. PBW at his best.

Valentine’s Day (Choco box no. 1) and Loving Her Was Easier Than Anything I’ll Ever Do Again – Two amazing (per usual) mixes from Motel de Moka. A bit more introspective than the previous two. These are how I’m gonna close my day.
