j dilla is my favorite hip hop producer. like all my favorite artists, he is able to combine pop sensibility with musical oddities in a way that is incredibly subversive, albeit it seemingly unintentional.
there are so many tracks to choose from that dilla has produced. so so many. whip me with a strap gets a nod because of added help from ghostface, a fav mc of mine. the the beat itself is an example of dilla’s keen ear for samples.
oh yeah, and the drumsssssssssssss.

J Dilla: "Oxtopus Boom Boom" and "Love Junkee [Remix Instrumental]" AUDIO
This new Dilla track just showed up online and it is dope as expected. Pretty reserved – sounds like it was probably just a demo – but even in rough form Dilla is better than 99.9% of producers. The other track is one of my favorite Dilla beats of all time that I’ve been meaning to get up for a while now. The kick is mapped with the bass line and it is so rugged I have to wipe the dirt off my face every time I listen to it.

New J Dilla Soon
Jay Dee was the model for the prolific artist so it isn’t too surprising when I hear he has new beats coming out that I have never heard of. This said it always makes me want to go to Amoeba, buy an MPC, and lock myself in my room for weeks on end trying to mimic his drum patters. That my favorite Wu-lyricist is going to be a part of this whole endeavor makes it that much better (via GvB).

This video is so lush and trippy, and the beat is unreal. I’m stoked for In Living the True Gods (quasi-via GvB).
