i can’t pin down james pants‘ new album seven seals, which is what i like about it so much. sometimes it sounds like a krautrock record but that isn’t true at all. still awe-struck that he is from spokane..buy it:
Description: Seven Seals was made while reading mystical books and the book of Revelations, and inspired by being in the mood to start a cult. This is the cult’s soundtrack.

walls are the perfect accompaniment to the weather happening in los anglees right now. a refreshing, cleansing rain after a long hot summer – washing our palette of the drenched out noise summer tracks we have been inundated with. i’m sure i’ll have grown tired with this sort of electro by the time the seasons change again (if that is possible in southern california) but for right now walls is perfect to me (via npip):

mayer hawthorne is an interesting beast – a straight crooner that on record invokes black soul/r&b of the 60s with an incredible talent for production, songwriting, and melody. he puts out records on the venerable stones throw, which is basically a carte blanche to do anything and have it turn out great so i’m not super surprised that the music hits so hard.
i am stoked on hist debut album a strange arrangement but even more stoked on the electro slant given to “green eyed love” by LA’s finest classixx. i can’t stop listening to this remix – classix strips away hawthorne’s production leaving only the song intact, pushing it in a completely different yet surprisingly fitting setting.

summer is slowly coming to a close – although with this week’s weather it seems like it is just peaking. i’ll miss these days of shorts, cuffed jeans, swimming, and acceptable malaise only to have them come back next year.
cameo is better known for other tracks but she’s strange is one of my favorites – it acts like a gradient between the hot summer sound pumping out of car windows on the CA-1 and the late-night oddity that is LA in the fall:

i have been remiss in not posting anything on washed out yet. best of the electro-pop hazy/lofi acts happening right now. at the end of the day, it’s all about harmonies and a sense of clarity within the noise:
