girls have an undeniable quality to them – pop outsiders with a bizarre aesthetic, both musically and otherwise. they are another group that have both impeccable production and songwriting ability. yours tru.ly recently filmed them proper in SF, a video release that coincides with a feature from the fader as well as a stream of a killer b-side life in san francisco. can’t get enough of their sound:
there is something highly disconcerting about wild beasts‘ sound – the songwriting, structure, and production are all tight/clean but there is some part of the soung that pushes it in a direction that is just somewhat off – haunting in a way. it is a collision of tribal and baroque aesthetics, like dorian gray -multiplied – cavorting in the woods:
say mayday are true homies doing great things to better the cultural landscape online. they run a great blog and have an awesome array of features that push out new + original content, something a lot of sites lack. there is a lot of talk on how curation is the next step in the digital age but it is important to remember that curation has to go beyond re-posting other people’s work. to make something truly interesting, you have create yourself as well.
one of their featured programs is cover me where they get bands to cover a song they love in a unique format. i love it conceptually and dig even more that they got the good people in slang chickens to be in their first episode covering new order’s age of consent:
damn this is crazy – nosaj thing with the low-budget, killer visual set up:
