Radiohead: "House of Cards" Video

Radiohead‘s new video for “House of Cards” has been blogged to hell, but Peter at Create Digital Motion hits the nail on the head with why this is so cool – open-source software used to distribute the video and CC licensing the code so it is free to use under specific conditions.

Yes, it is also cool that it was shot on lazers and that it is beautiful and creepy and emotive.

Fleet Foxes: "White Winter Hymnal" VIDEO + "He Doesn't Know Why" AUDIO

I haven’t been able to get the new Fleet Foxes album out of my head since it came out. Today they released an amazing and beautiful clay-mation video for one of the catchiest songs on the album that blew me away – I’ve also included an mp3 of my favorite track from the album.

James Houston: "Big Ideas (Don't get any)" Video

The best Radiohead “Nude” remix I have heard (no easy feat considering Holy Fuck’s brilliant effort). + this video and it is one of the coolest things I have seen in a while. The equipment being used:

Sinclair ZX Spectrum – Guitars (rhythm & lead)
Epson LX-81 Dot Matrix Printer – Drums
HP Scanjet 3c – Bass Guitar
Hard Drive array – Act as a collection of bad speakers – Vocals & FX

I also disagree with Houston’s claim that “It doesn’t sound great, as it’s not supposed to” – it sounds absolutely majestic and I think it was always meant to sound that way. Get through the intro and you will see what I mean.

Air France: "Collapsing At Your Doorstep" AUDIO

Amazing track from Sweden’s Air France. I love thsi type of sampling (reminds me a lot of Jens Lekman, which might be an erroneous correlation due to their national heritige but whatever) – very subtle and very beautiful. The bass line is silky and the whole song just washes over you in a way that, at least for me, evokes flying over a cityscape/country. Nice band name. Great pop sensibility. Via GvB:

Uncontacted Tribe in the Amazon

The power of the image. From National Geographic (via BB):

“We are very confident the photos are genuine,” said Miriam Ross, a spokesperson for Survival International, which estimates that half of the hundred or so uncontacted tribes in the world live in the rain forests of Brazil and Peru.

Some experts say few, if any, tribes have had no outside contact. It’s more likely is that previous generations had negative encounters, prompting social taboos that continue to drive clans deeper into isolation.

Due to their vulnerable immune systems, these groups are highly susceptible to diseases borne by outsiders such as missionaries, loggers, or oil workers.

The Add-Art Firefox plugin is something of true beauty. Replaces the ads on most websites with pictures of a particular piece of art. Wonderful. Via Rhizome:

San-Zhr Pod Village

These photos are wild. How rad would these have been if they were completed – what a surreal environment it would have been. Via BB.
