monome
i recentlly got a monome. i absolutely love it – it is inspirational to just have this beautiful, blank canvas in front of you knowing that the possibilities are endless. it is also a bit daunting. i wanted to use it for this week’s show but due to time constraints i’m going to go this route instead. regardless, here are two amazing monome videos that i simply love:
Reconstructing The Eraser with the monome from makingthenoise on Vimeo.
Flowers from Jan van Nuenen on Vimeo.
Christopher Willits: Use iPhone to Control Ableton|Max/MSP
These videos from Christopher Willits are super inspiring and are forcing me to finally open up my brain and begin the exploration of Ableton | Max/MSP | OSC etc. technologies. I just got a monome and I have an iPhone so all of this is very exciting (via sneakmove).
Charles Hamilton: "Windows Media Player" AUDIO

I’ve always found it a huge challenge to incorporate references to contemporary forms of digital communications (texting, blogging, etc.) into lyrics without sounding completely lame, despite the fact that similar references are abundant in other eras. Andre 3000 get in right in UGK’s “International Player’s Anthem” (“So, I typed a text to a girl I used to see/Sayin that I chose this cutie pie with whom I wanna be/And I apologize if this message gets you down/Then I CC’d every girl that I’d see see round town”), but Charles Hamilton’s takes this lyrical trick to a new level with “Windows Media Player”. It is absolutely amazing, both in sample choice and that he can name drop his various web domains without sounding like a complete nerd. Via The FADER:

WriteRoom
WriteRoom is the best application I have ever got for my computer. I don’t do a ton of writing, but when I do, it has helped me bang out whatever I need to get done a lot faster and with more cohesion. Completely blocks out all other applications (email, im, rss, etc.) and lets your brain focus. Try the trial – I did on a whim and just bought a license.

nosaj thing live video test
