a little over a year ago i picked up a sony pcm-d50 – i was alawys interested in found sound recordings and, from what i could tell at the time, it was a beautiful machine. a year out its quality remains although i’ve never used it quite as much as i’d like. sometimes i use the fire application on my iphone but typically i’m never as alert as i should be to the sounds happening around me. these noises are a marvelous thing and these type of recordings are like binoculars for your ears.
when i saw this video/audio take of woodworms burrowing through wood, it reminded me of my portable recorder – incredibly mesmerizing (via say mayday):
URGENCY: Sunset Lodge Studio/The Cave
recording of urgency began at sunset lodge studio – a gem of a place hidden behind solutions’ elliott smith wall in sivlerlake
sunset lodge is run by chris rakestraw who is straight up incredible – wired/built the whole place himself and keeps the vibe mellow but professional. bartered for our time there by building him a website
the rest of the recording/tracking was done in my bedroom aka the cave – a lot of noise (and noise complaints) was created. good times in small spaces with lots of electronics, feeding of bizarre levels of light
