This is the ultimate jam. As my fave arty nude photo blog Synthetic Pubes observes, Daft Punk just retroactively got smacked across the face with an 80s gauntlet.

Dirty Projectors: "Rise Above (Live)" VIDEO
I had never really listened to Dirty Projectors up until a couple months ago when a friend of mine turned me on to them. There is such a cluster of good music out there that casualties will be inevitable, but I’m very thankful someone clued me in. They (or I should say he, Dave Longstreth) have an amazing production style, mixing various sounds and recording qualities, and an incredible sense for song structure and melody.
Below is a video of a performance they did for one of their more accessible songs, Rise Above, which is a (loose) reinterpretation of the Black Flag song of the same name.:

radiohead live

Radiohead | SPERock – CC BY-NC-ND
I saw Radiohead at the Hollywood Bowl last night, having rushed around all of LA to snag up Craigslisted tickets, and it was beyond worth it. They played for over two hours and sounded absolutely amazing. Truly the most accomplished live act I think I have ever seen. I can’t believe they get such a huge sound out of so many instruments and they have clearly overcome the traditional notion of being a ‘band’.
A highlight for me was the transition they did from “Faust Arp” into a cover of my all-time favorite Neil Young song, “Tell Me Why”. I found this video on YouTube (UPDATED: A real dope video via GvB [although this is the first time I have actually beaten him to a story]), don’t know how long it will stay up there, but hopefully it won’t move. There is a bit of talking at the beginning but it dies down quickly:

James Houston: "Big Ideas (Don't get any)" Video
The best Radiohead “Nude” remix I have heard (no easy feat considering Holy Fuck’s brilliant effort). + this video and it is one of the coolest things I have seen in a while. The equipment being used:
Sinclair ZX Spectrum – Guitars (rhythm & lead)
Epson LX-81 Dot Matrix Printer – Drums
HP Scanjet 3c – Bass Guitar
Hard Drive array – Act as a collection of bad speakers – Vocals & FX
I also disagree with Houston’s claim that “It doesn’t sound great, as it’s not supposed to” – it sounds absolutely majestic and I think it was always meant to sound that way. Get through the intro and you will see what I mean.
