Never really got into AU, but this fantastic tune layered with incredible animation from TAKCOM just put a quick end to that. I think the video’s either about the Tri-Force or Lost’s alternate universe.

This is the ultimate jam. As my fave arty nude photo blog Synthetic Pubes observes, Daft Punk just retroactively got smacked across the face with an 80s gauntlet.
This odd, haunting masterpiece is the best short film, animated or otherwise, I’ve seen in years (sorry, Skhizein, but nobody beats Norman McLaren). Go over to the short’s official site if you’d like to be bowled over by a loooong list of award victories (though, oddly, it didn’t even make the final five for the ’08 Oscars. But Crash also won an Oscar, so, y’know, idiots).
The short’s plot is a pretty straightforward allegory for a number of phobias and mental illnesses, but never does it devolve into a lecture or come across as preachy. An entertaining story AND potent message?! Waiter, cancel our order for a bigger boat, one has just arrived for us.

Guess what? Some dude from Pixar made a great short film. Seemingly impossible, no? It’s not like they have a track record for mind-blowing stuff. This is how I imagine a conversation would go down between my two favorite television characters after they watched this video.
Pete Campbell: “Can you imagine? A thing like that.”
Omar: “Oh, indeed.”
I especially enjoy the (ironic?) peppy, hopeful score at the end despite the decidedly unchill finale. Those Spaniards and their sensibilities…

A few days ago the ‘noids and I both twittered about this eccentric little Animated Web Series That Could over at IFC.com. But, in case you’re not the microblogging type (but are the regular blogging type? I’d guess very few of those people exist), this small, engaging project is definitely worth your eight minutes.
Comic book artist Dash Shaw (previously responsible for 2008′s Fantagraphics delight Bottomless Belly Button) also released Unclothed Man via Fantagraphics this month. Disparate animation styles and simple, hand drawn production value is the perfect vessel for a world where future-artists hone their still life sketches on rigid, unmoving droids. Our hero, Rebel X-6, is no droid. Defiance works best when you start small, I suppose.
Embedded is the first installment (watch the rest here), but the second and third chapters are my true favorites. That’s what we call a “hook” in the biz (what biz?):
I’m always impressed with Fleet Foxes‘ videos (1, 2) – I’m also a sucker for animation of this type:

Incal is a dystopian sci-fi comic that I got turned on to a while back – think of a French Blade Runner done up in a graphic novel. it is crazy influential in the sci-fi world and its influence can be seen in a variety of places, most notably the always epic Fifth Element. It is super rad and this clip that got posted on horse latitudes shows a trailer for an animated version – I guess it was never finished which is a tragedy:
