Solstice on Mars

I started following NASA on twitter today and the first thing that came up was this image of the summer solstice on Mars. A good start to a new digital friendship (with a broad organization) - contemporary living is something different:

BeKanye

This is so wack but I hat to get it up. He can’t stop smiling I think its hilarious (via Nah Right):

Jay-Z: “American Boy (Live at Glastonbury) Video

I’m remiss in that I haven’t posted this video yet:

Even more so now that this surfaced on the net - I love the appropriation of British slang:

No Age: “Eraser” Video

I saw No Age play at the Getty last night and they were great as usual. This video of theirs came through this morning so it was a good excuse to post about them (via GvB):

Wale: “The Artistic Integrity” VIDEO and “The Opening Title Sequence” MP3

The first video off of The Mixtape About Nothing as well as the first (and my favorite) track. Download the whole thing and make sure to listen to “The Kramer”.

Julius von Bismarck: “Image Fulgurator”

Julius von Bismarck is a German guy who created a camera-gun that, when triggered by the flash of another camera, projects an image onto whatever the other camera is taking a picture of:

The Image Fulgurator is a device for physically manipulating photographs. It intervenes when a photo is being taken, without the photographer being able to detect anything. The manipulation is only visible on the photo afterwards.

So creepy and so outrageous. Easier to understand in the video below (via Gadget Lab):

New J Dilla Soon

Jay Dee was the model for the prolific artist so it isn’t too surprising when I hear he has new beats coming out that I have never heard of. This said it always makes me want to go to Amoeba, buy an MPC, and lock myself in my room for weeks on end trying to mimic his drum patters. That my favorite Wu-lyricist is going to be a part of this whole endeavor makes it that much better (via GvB).

The Franks Recording Session

Thanks to Garret for getting up this little clip - The Franks recorded an EP a month ago that we are currently mixing literally around the world. Colin is in Sweden, Sarah is in NYC, Ryan (our friend who did the recording and helped produce) is in Prague. What would modern living be like without e-mail? I’m still in LA which makes me feel boring but at least I have a tan.

WINSTON: Don’t tell the Party, but sex is way better than totalitarianism.

EVERYONE: Surprise! We’re the Party.

WINSTON: Oh, rats.

Guy Ritchie: “Take It To The Next Level”

I’ve been watching Euro 2008 as much as I can and every time I see this clip I get goosebumps. Doesn’t hurt that I love Arsenal and am pretty into the Netherlands. Hadn’t seen the full version before - it is even better than the one on TV:
