Abe Vigoda are, at this point, beyond saturated. This isn’t a bad things by any means, but it means that these songs are nothing new to the web. A hype machine search proves this true. Nonetheless, I love these songs and have since I got Skeleton when it came out a couple months ago. They are incredibly melodic, although that melody is deeply hidden, and seem very well thought out structurally, if not instinctively so.
Both of these songs excite me for different reasons. “Cranes” sounds like a rawer, less expansive, Animal Collective and is a bit darker melodically. “The Garden” follows similar suit but with a more pleasant melody line. Which raises an interesting question - on an album where so many songs sound so similar, why do they all seem to retain their individuality? I suppose the answer lies in subtlety, a quality too often unpracticed by artists of all types.
