Annie Clark’s new album really blows me away - there is so much emotion and so much heart. Its very simply beautiful. The compositions are complex and experimental and lush and gorgeous.
“All My Stars Aligned” is my current favorite after an initial listen through (which admittedly hasn’t been thorough at this point). The backup vocals are haunting. The piano is so wonderful and free-flowing. Of course her voice is mind-blowing. The song shows so much restraint as well - where other artists would succumb to the urge for a big explosion of sound (and this song could absolutely have one of those “Hey Jude”-like endings), Annie Clark keeps it mellow and the subtlety kills me.
The electric guitar reminds me of “Subterranean Homesick Alien” by Radiohead.
